A shocking incident has emerged from Bangladesh’s Mymensingh, where a 25-year-old Hindu man, Dipu Chandra Das, was brutally lynched by a mob over alleged blasphemy. Dipu was working at a local factory at the time of the incident. Following his tragic death, his father has broken his silence, expressing deep pain, fear, and a sense of hopelessness while seeking justice for his son. The incident has once again raised serious concerns over mob violence, religious intolerance, and the safety of minorities in the region.

The incident has once again raised serious concerns over mob violence, religious intolerance, and the safety of minorities in the region.

A Hindu man lost his life in a mob lynching incident in Bangladesh’s Mymensingh district on Friday, at a time when the country is witnessing unrest following the death of youth leader Sharif Osman Hadi. The victim, 27-year-old Dipu Chandra Das, was killed amid the violence. After the tragedy, his father has come forward, sharing his grief and a sense of despair as the family struggles to cope with the loss.

The killing of a Hindu man amid continuing unrest in Bangladesh has triggered sharp reactions from political leaders in India, who have voiced serious concerns about the safety and treatment of minorities in the country. The violence erupted after the death of anti-India radical leader Sharif Osman Hadi, which led to widespread protests.

The victim, 25-year-old Dipu Chandra Das, was attacked by a mob over allegations of blasphemy while he was employed at a factory in Mymensingh. Police officials stated that he was assaulted outside his workplace, after which his body was reportedly hung from a tree and set ablaze.

Several prominent figures, including Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi, Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi, and exiled Bangladeshi author Taslima Nasreen, have spoken out strongly in response to the incident.

Extremely Disturbing”

In a message shared on X on Friday night, Priyanka Gandhi described the killing of Hindu youth Dipu Chandra Das in Bangladesh as deeply shocking. She said that in a civilised society, acts of discrimination, violence, or murder carried out on the basis of religion, caste, or identity amount to crimes against humanity.

Gandhi urged the central government to acknowledge the rising attacks on Hindu, Christian, and Buddhist minority communities in Bangladesh and to firmly take up the matter of their safety and protection with the authorities in Dhaka.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, reacting on X, called the incident deeply tragic and said it reflected the alarming spread of mob violence across Bangladesh. While expressing grief over the killing of the Hindu man and welcoming the Bangladeshi government’s condemnation of the act, he questioned what concrete action was being taken to hold the perpetrators accountable and what measures were in place to prevent such crimes in the future.

“Bangladesh Violence पर Pawan Kalyan: जिनके लिए खून बहाया, आज वही ज़ुल्म झेल रहे”

Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan said that while history honours sacrifice, it is heartbreaking that a land once freed with the blood of Indian soldiers is now witnessing violence against innocent minorities. He recalled that during the 1971 war, the Indian Armed Forces stood firmly with the oppressed, fighting not merely a battle but defending the dignity, identity, and rights of millions in what later became Bangladesh. He noted that nearly 3,900 Indian soldiers laid down their lives and more than 10,000 were wounded to help create a nation where people could live with peace and security.

Kalyan remarked that in the present situation, the idea of “peace” exists only in words, while ground realities reflect continued persecution. Referring to data from the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, he stated that more than 2,400 cases of violence against minority communities were recorded between August 2024 and July this year.

He said the recurring pattern of attacks was both evident and disturbing, pointing to past incidents such as the wrongful imprisonment of ISKCON monk Chinmoy Krishna Das and the brutal killing of Communist Party leader Pradip Bhowmik. He added that the recent murder of Dipu Chandra Das in Mymensingh marked yet another horrifying chapter, stressing that the victim was not merely killed but subjected to extreme brutality unworthy of a modern society.

The Deputy Chief Minister urged the Bangladesh government to take decisive action rather than limiting its response to verbal condemnation, and called for concrete steps to restore law and order. He also appealed to the United Nations to pay serious attention to the suffering and insecurity faced by minority communities in Bangladesh.

Reacting to the situation, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi said that the repeated attacks on Hindu minorities in Bangladesh indicated the growing dominance of radical Islamist forces in the country.

Targeting the central government, Chaturvedi questioned what steps the Government of India was taking to protect the interests of Hindus in an increasingly radicalised neighbouring country. She asked whether the Ministry of External Affairs had even issued a formal condemnation of the incident. Warning that the presence of two highly radicalised nations on India’s eastern and western borders was a serious concern, she also raised questions about how India was ensuring its national security in such a scenario.

“Hindu Man’s Colleague Sought to Teach Him a ‘Lesson’”

Meanwhile, exiled writer Taslima Nasreen, who fled Bangladesh in 1994, made serious claims regarding the lynching. She alleged that Dipu Chandra Das was targeted by a fellow factory worker, a Muslim, who sought to punish him over what she described as a minor or insignificant issue.

Nasreen alleged that the coworker publicly accused Dipu of making offensive remarks about the Prophet in front of a crowd, which immediately triggered a violent reaction. According to her, an enraged mob attacked Dipu brutally. Although police later intervened and took him into custody, she noted that this effectively placed him under police protection.

She further claimed that Dipu informed the police that he was innocent and had never made any such remarks, insisting that the accusation was a deliberate plot by his coworker. However, she alleged that no action was taken against the person who made the accusation. Raising serious questions, Nasreen said it remained unclear whether the police, influenced by extremist sympathies, handed Dipu back to the mob, or whether radical elements forcibly removed him from custody. What followed, she alleged, was a horrific public spectacle in which Dipu was beaten, hanged, and set on fire.
