Late Friday evening, terrorists opened fire on the joint search team of the Army and Jammu & Kashmir Police’s Special Operations Group (SOG), leaving one soldier injured. Jammu: Officials said that the area around the encounter site in Udhampur was kept under a strict security cordon throughout the night. On Saturday morning, the Army and Jammu & Kashmir Police resumed the joint search operation.
According to officials, two to three terrorists are suspected to be hiding in the dense Seoj Dhar forest region. Reinforcements equipped with drones and sniffer dogs were rushed from both Udhampur and Doda to strengthen the operation.
A large-scale combing exercise was underway, but no fresh contact had been established with the terrorists till the last reports came in. Security forces, however, believe the terrorists are still hiding in the forest area, and the hunt continues.

During the gun battle, one soldier was critically injured and later succumbed to his injuries at a hospital, officials confirmed.
The loss of the soldier has been deeply mourned. Security officials noted that this region has witnessed several deadly encounters in the past year. On June 26, security forces had eliminated Haider, a top Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) commander, who had been operating in the Dudu-Basantgarh forests for nearly four years.
